Atmospheric Perspective Collages

Well I have to say thank you to Mrs.Jahnig, again! She had this lesson posted on her blog and I took it and ran with it.

We have been working on an architecture unit for quite sometime now and this lesson just fell right into place. We create a skyline with newspaper first, then we added layers of tissue paper to show atmospheric perspective and now we've been creating collage houses and buildings in the foreground. We did lose some of our skyline during the process, but they are looking so neat!

Vocabulary for this lesson:
Atmospheric Perspective
Collage
Mixed Media
Skyline
Dillute
Frank Gehry
Frank Lloyd Wright
Foreground, Middleground, Background

3rd Grade Monograms!

I learned how to teach this lesson with the fabulous Dr.Winningham. She is a fiber arts queen and the kids really enjoy working on this project!

We are using burlap fabric and yarn with large embroidery needles.
They are creating a monogram with their initials. Their monogram has a motif consisting of a color scheme, their favorite imagery and spectacular fonts showcasing their names!

We have had about 1-2 work days on these so far and they're coming along great!

Kindergarten's Warhol Paintings

We've been studying emotions of color lately and how we can draw expressions on faces to convey a certain feeling. We are working the warm and cool color families and exploring color mixing within those analogous color schemes.
Painting the "warm side"...
First we drew angry expressions, happy ones, frustrated...etc.

Next, we painted the cool color side which consisted of blue sad faces, hurt faces, and some frightened.

We looked at some of Andy Warhol's paintings to see how he utilizes color and have been inspired by his unusual and bright color choices.

We will go back on top of paintings, once they are dry and bring out some of the features that got lost in the paint. Finally, we'll dispay these in the hallway as our "Warhol Wall o'Faces". Pictures coming soon!

Sock Puppets!

Well, my 3rd graders that come on Friday are an 'Art Club' type class and we recently made sock puppets. They split up into groups and created a 'back drop' and were encouraged to write a script for a puppet show. Here are some pictures of their puppets.

Winter Mural

Thanfully, we've gotten some snow days...which gives me a chance to upload some pics to the ol'blog. It's too bad teachers stay so busy all the time!

We collaborated and created this Winter Scene...stolen from Mr.E! (Thanks Mr.E!)
This project was donated to Publix...and I hope it's still hanging up in honor of all this snow!
Kindergarten - Painted the sky
1st/2nd - Made trees, snowmen and penguins.
4th - Made houses.
