New Bulletin Board! Fishy Thoughts....

Well, I've been wanting to put up a new bulletin board and I randomly had the idea to do an ocean theme....in honor of summertime and my upcoming honeymoon! So, my wonderful fiance Daniel brought me lunch and we put up this 'Art Smarts' board....hopefully it will inspire kids to 'do the right thing' and also remember the art room rules!

Enjoy!

Got Paint??

So, two of my classes painted today with tempera paint and I absolutely could not throw it out at the end of the day. I have such a hard time wasting art supplies...I'm sure we all feel the same way. Anyway, I was looking at all those palettes wondering what in the world I could do, besides scrape it out for reuse.

Then I remembered good ol' Eric Carle and his beautiful collages. I have always wanted to do an Eric Carle project, but never have...weird, I know. So, I grabbed a stack of white drawing paper and just started to fill the page with the leftover paint. Now, I have 10+ sheets of "Eric Carle" paper for collage projects! (or Henri Matisse for that matter!)

Just an idea....

Rocketships! 1st Grade

This Rocketship project is a work in progress...and of course, I borrowed this lesson from deepspacesparkle.com! First we drew a rocket in pencil.

Drawing the rocket

Adding creative designs

Then, we outlined our designs with a black oil pastel

Then we painted the rockets with a limited palette of blue, orange, yellow-orange and gray.

It's amazing how everybody's art is so unique!

Students were encouraged to create a new color in the empty space on their paint trays.

Kandinsky's Concentric Circles

Here's two different grade levels focusing on Kandinsky's concentric circle painting. The collages are by Kindergartener's and the paintings are by 3rd graders. I found these lessons from Deep Space Sparkle...thanks awesome art teacher from California! (deepspacesparkle.com)

First we painted with tempera paint, then added patterns with oil pastels.

Collages!

K- Collage.

Circles everywhere!

Matisse Room w/Fish Bowl

I've been using this "Matisse Room" idea for awhile now, and I finally decided to try it with Kindergarten. I'm glad I did because one our Kinder's was so great, it's hanging up at the Frist right now in the Mayor's Art Show! Anyway, we made a room and then collaged a fishbowl with goldfish into our interior space.

Eraser Block Prints - 3rd Grade Art Club

Students carved images into an eraser and colored them with markers to create a 'print' or a stamp. They made a small book to stamp their images in.

Amusement Park Sub Lesson

I left this lesson for a sub a week ago and I was blown away by this 2nd graders amazing drawing.
